Safura visits public school near Oslo

Azerbaijani artist provokes admiration among kids
as she sings Drip Drop in school yard

Overwhelming excitement and joy ruled the grounds during Safura’s visit to a public school near Oslo on Tuesday, 25th of May. It is one of a handful of schools in the entire Scandinavia with a special class where kids learn the Azerbaijani language, culture and history. No wonder Safura went there for her school day trip, an activity that all Eurovision participants have in their agenda this year.

Right from the onset this promised to be a fun encounter. Kids literally besieged Safura’s bus upon arrival, running around with Eurovision and Safura posters, shouting the Azerbaijani singer’s name and scanting the words from her Eurovision song Drip Drop. In an emotional welcome, a few of the children even greeted Safura in Azerbaijani.

Together with the kids, Safura sang Drip Drop from a makeshift stage right in the school’s yard and then went on to have a short photo shoot and give a few symbolic presents to the school, including her favourite Twilight saga books.

Although the children were already exalted from hearing Safura sing, the most exciting part came right after that. With a line of kids stretching all across the school yard, Safura dedicated more than an hour to signing postcards, CDs and taking pictures with the children. Safura seemed to be no less excited and happy than the kids who got a rare chance to speak face-to-face with a Eurovision star.

This simple activity was such a welcome and relaxing break from the preparation and rehearsals stress of the last several days that Safura did not want to leave the school.

When Safura was finally about to head home, to everybody’s surprise, a little 9-year-old boy embraced her and said loudly that he loved her. Thor (that was the name of the boy) just could not let Safura go. “I love you, I love you,” he kept repeating. “I love you too,” responded Safura.

When she was finally on her way back to the bus, Thor was still walking behind her with the words “I love you”.
